Poppy Tibbetts began singing and performing at a young age and writing songs in her final years of school, after discovering her favourite artist to this day: Joni Mitchell. Taking influence from Mitchell, she has developed a style of singing that uses her vocal range to its fullest ability.
Since moving to Birmingham in September 2009, Poppy has started to experiment with a darker lyrical style, taking influence from artists such as Adam Green and Emmy the Great. To create a new style which is full of irony and black humour, but always with a tentative undercurrent of romanticism.
Two things that Poppy feels are missing from a lot of music today are clever lyrical content and melodically interesting content. She continues to develop these two things significantly in her writing.
Over the last year Poppy has been building up a reputation in Birmingham and London, playing at well-established venues like The Rainbow Warehouse, The Hare and Hounds and The Camden Stables. She has recently been in the studio recording tracks for an EP, which will be released in 2011.
